Everything you need to know about the MET exam.
The MET is a multilevel English language exam that tests Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. It can be taken as a 2-skill (Listening & Reading) or 4-skill exam. Available as digital or paper-based.
Each section is scored 0-80. Total score is up to 320 for 4 skills. Scores map to CEFR levels: A2 (0-39), B1 (40-52), B2 (53-63), C1 (64-80). No pass or fail.
MET is accepted by universities, employers, and immigration authorities across multiple continents, including Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Greece, and more.
MET tests real-world English, not test-taking tricks. Focus on building overall proficiency. Practice with our free tests to familiarize yourself with the format.

Writing and Speaking responses are scored by AI using the same criteria as the official MET. The AI evaluates grammar, vocabulary, coherence, task achievement, and pronunciation (for speaking). Scores are estimated and may differ from official scores.
For Australian permanent residency, the minimum scores are: Competent level (56 Listening, 55 Reading, 57 Writing, 48 Speaking). For more points, aim for Proficient (61L/63R/74W/59S) or Superior levels.
MET focuses on real-world English rather than academic language. It's generally more affordable, offers single-section retakes, and is now accepted alongside IELTS and PTE for Australian visas. MET tests practical communication skills used in daily life.
